Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 29, 2026
Gapreel is a Mac app made and sold by Nia D Pham, an individual based in Vietnam ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what the Gapreel app, the Gapreel browser extension and the gapreel.com website do with your data.
The short version
- Gapreel works on your Mac. Your recordings, screenshots, clipboard history and settings stay on your Mac unless you choose to send them somewhere.
- Gapreel has no analytics, telemetry or usage tracking. We do not see what you record, capture or copy.
- You do not need an account. The app contacts the internet only for the things listed below: checking your license, checking for updates, and services you connect yourself.
What stays on your Mac
- Recordings and their timelines, screenshots, text read from the screen, and the library index.
- Clipboard history, when you turn it on, with the masking and ignore rules you set.
- Settings, masking rules and license state.
- Transcription and text recognition run on your Mac and send nothing off it.
- Keys and passwords you give Gapreel, for example storage credentials or an API key for a service you connect, are kept in the macOS Keychain.
What leaves your Mac, and when
| When | What is sent | To whom |
|---|---|---|
| You activate a license, and once a day after that | Your license key, an anonymous machine identifier (a one-way hash of your Mac's hardware ID), your Mac's computer name, and the app name | Polar (polar.sh), which sells and manages Gapreel licenses |
| The app checks for updates (shortly after launch, then daily, or when you choose Check for Updates) | A request for the update file, which shows your IP address, your Mac's architecture and the app version | Our update server, hosted on Cloudflare |
| You download Gapreel or visit gapreel.com | Your IP address and browser details, as with any website | Cloudflare, which hosts the site and the downloads |
| You turn on offload to your own storage (S3, R2, B2 or a synced folder) | The recordings you choose, encrypted on your Mac with AES-256-GCM before upload | The storage provider you configured |
| You create a share link | The recording you share | The storage you configured for sharing |
| You connect a narration service and ask for a narrated export | The narration text of that export | The narration service you connected |
| You send a recording to a trace collector | The recording's trace data, with secrets masked | The collector address you entered |
| You use the built-in browser agent with your own Anthropic key | Your task text, and page snapshots and screenshots from the agent's tab | Anthropic, billed to your own account |
Nothing in this table happens without your action or setting, except the license check and the update check.
Masking
Before anything leaves your Mac, Gapreel masks secrets it finds (private keys, JWTs, cloud keys, API and bearer tokens) in labels, screen text, diagnostics and transcripts, and always removes URL query values. Emails and IP addresses are masked while "mask fields by default" is on. You can add your own masking rules.
AI agents you connect
Gapreel lets AI agents on your Mac, for example Claude Code or Codex, record and read what you allow. Each agent asks once in the Gapreel window, you choose what it may do, and you can revoke it at any time in Settings. What an agent does with data it reads is governed by that agent's provider, not by us.
Payments
Purchases are handled by Polar as merchant of record. Polar processes your payment details and billing address under its own privacy policy. We receive your email address, your name if you give one, the country of purchase and the order details, so that we can provide your license and support.
The website and cookies
gapreel.com is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser and runs no analytics. Cloudflare may process IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
Data retention
- Data on your Mac stays until you delete it. Deleting recordings, screenshots or clipboard history in the app removes the local files.
- License and order records are kept by Polar and by us for as long as your license exists, and after that for the period tax and accounting law requires.
- Support emails are kept for up to 2 years after the conversation ends.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export the personal data we hold about you, to restrict or object to its processing, and to complain to your data protection authority. We honor these requests for every customer, wherever you live. The only personal data we hold is your order and license record and any email you send us. To make a request, email [email protected]. We answer within 30 days. You can also deactivate a Mac from your license at any time, which removes that Mac's activation from Polar.
International transfers
We are based in Vietnam. Polar and Cloudflare may process data in other countries, including the United States, under their own safeguards.
Children
Gapreel is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes
We will post changes on this page and update the date at the top. If a change affects how the app handles your data, the release notes for that version will say so.
